Cardboard Boat Race Rules
Divisions
Youth Division: Ages 8–15
Adult + Youth Division: Mixed ages
Adult Division: Ages 16+

Teams
Teams may have 1 to 3 people per boat.

Boat Construction
Boats must be fully constructed before race day. Teams must arrive ready to paddle.

Boats may be built only from:
Corrugated cardboard
Duct tape
Water-based paint for design

Prohibited materials include (but are not limited to):
Wood,Metal,Styrofoam
Any material that adds flotation or rigid structure
Cardboard with wax, resin, or vinyl coatings

Boats may be decorated with water-based paint only. All paint must be completely dry before launching.

The crew seating area (“cabin”) may not be enclosed above shoulder height.
Each crew must provide their own paddles.
Paddles may be made of any material.
No double-bladed paddles or oars (one blade per paddle only).

The Race
Any crew member under 48 inches tall must wear a U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jacket.
Each crew member may use up to one paddle each.
Boats will race from one side of the pool to the other and back.
Only paddles may be used for propulsion. No kicking, swimming, or other methods are allowed.

The fastest completion time wins.
